People, Customers, Prospects have specific opinions on how they like to receive advertising. When marketing and branding your business or organization you want to be assured your target audience is receiving and responding to your promotional efforts.
Did you know: 80% Like receiving Promotional Products. This means to me they want them and appreciate receiving them. In turn your brand and message is in their hands. How cool is that. 71% Wished they received promotional items more often. Here are people who want your brand in their hands. If that is not an opportunity, I don't know what is. 73% Prefer Promotional Products over any other form of advertising. My question is: Are you using promotional products as part of your strategy to get your brand and message out to your target audience? I strongly urge you to get in touch with a promotions professional who will share with you how to use them creatively and effectively, give you ideas to make your advertising/branding more effective. There is a right way and a wrong way to use all forms of advertising. When not strategically used and properly developed the advertising dollar is wasted. This is the same for promotional items. Simply purchasing a pen, or mouse pad does not mean immediate success.
Here are a few responses from people who received promotional items from well meaning companies: 71% Said they had no use for it. This tells me no thought was taken to select the right item for the target audience. 48% Said the product was cheap and of poor quality. This reflects on the business or organization who handed out the item. Again, no planning or selecting the right item. 41% Said they already owned a similar product. This is hard to predict. That is why you want to insure the item you are giving out is the best option so yours is the one they want to keep. 35% Said they knew someone else that would like the item better. You may have selected the wrong item, but on the positive side, your brand and message is not going to waste. Someone will have your brand and is receiving your goodwill and is a potential customer. 27% Said the items was unattractive. This could be the item itself or the artwork on the item. 12% Said the item was bad for the environment. People are more sophisticated and they are thinking abut the environment. There are a lot more environmentally sensitive products available than before. 10% Said they don't support that cause or brand. It is very important to know who your audience is and how they feel about you. It is important to work with a promotions professional to help you with deciding what is the right product, how to deliver it successfully to avoid some of these pitfalls. My next post is: What is the Preferred Avenue in receiving advertising. Feel free to reach out to me, Peter Fishburn at [email protected] All businesses attempt to do two things every year, plan for the future and save or avoid unnecessary expenditures at every opportunity. There is one action and source of information I believe many businesses are not taking advantage of. At the beginning of each year, most businesses begin the planning process on what activities and programs they will to do to promote their business to customers and prospects. For example, they may have a sale, open house, anniversary, thank you gifts, referral program, incentives, employee picnic, tail gate parties, conferences, trade shows, sales calls and leave behinds, national sales meetings, to name a few. They will consider which non-profits or causes they may support in the coming year. Budgets will be established and funds allocated for these purposes. So you may ask, what is missing. What is missing are the people who will assist you in making all these event successful and memorable. I am speaking specifically of your promotional product professional. If this professional knows what and when you are planning each event, possibly the theme, they can be thinking of promotional programs or activities for you to consider as well as be looking for specials, closeouts, new products, timelines to insure everything arrives on time. Investigate overseas production if you are considering a custom and unique promotional item for your event and see if there would be a cost savings to you. This individual would reach out to you way in advance of the event to help you prepare. They will have searched out ideas, options you may not have considered, propose a theme, packaging of selected items to enhance their impact, suggest ways of handing out the items for the best affect, artwork suggestions, and be aware of production and shipping timelines to insure on time delivery. All of these actions saves you time, worry, and money. In addition, this process keeps you on track by reminding you of events, and prevents you from completing tasks at the last minute. But more importantly will make you look good in front of your customers and prospects. Which in turn may lead to better results like: a memorable event, brand exposure, relationship building, improved communications, increase in sales to name a few. It is never too early to begin planning for your upcoming events. Reach out to your promotional marketing professional to discover what you are missing.
