What do you call a boomerang that does not come back? .......A stick. What do you call advertising that does not work... an expense. Advertising that does work.... is called an investment. In this time period, having your message in front of clients for a long period of time is important because you don't know two things: 1. When will they need your service or product and 2. When will you be able to deliver your services to your clients. A promotional item is an investment in the future actions of your customers. Since promotional items, when used correctly, are kept by recipients for over seven months, they will be in front of your clients now and for the foreseeable future. In addition, over 80% of people want to receive promotional items and think higher of the business who gave it to them. What to put into your clients hands? The options are limitless. Right now everyone needs a mask. Why not give all your customers a unique mask that makes them think of you? There are many creative mask right now and you will be helping them be safe.. People are at home, why not a creative and memorable pillow or towel? A pillow will end up on the couch in front of the TV. Why a towel, it will get warm and people will be spending time outside and a towel will last years not days or months. People are going to be going outside and taking walks. Why not a quality water bottle that has features that keep the water clean. and bacterial free. Sunglasses is another idea for the out of doors. People are lounging around the home....why not give them something comfortable to wear with your message. Do you need more ideas? What about a cell phone/tablet charger? Since people cannot hangout at coffee shops where they use to plug in, they will want a way to keep their devices charged. Add to that a nice head phones when they take their walks and you are strolling along with with them. Are all of your customers on your social media pages? Advertise that if people sign up you will send them a thank you.... You can qualify them by asking questions when they sign up. Or, interact with the people on your social media platforms and include the promotional item in the activity. There is a code on it or they must post pictures with them using it. Contest for originality or something like that. These are just a few ideas to interact with clients during this time period. Be ahead of your competition. So, the COVID-19 has been affecting our lives for the last 40 days or so. Employees are working from home or they had to be laid off with the intent of bringing them back when businesses can open up again. Communications with customers in the normal course of business has ceased and they are left wondering how you are doing. Now what to we do the is the question. As mentioned above we have two main audiences, our employees and our customers. We don't want to lose either one due to lack of touching base with them. Staying in contact is key and saying we care about you, we want to help you, and how can we help you. I believe you have to take the initiative and communicate with these audiences. Show them you care and since we cannot meet with them directly we can send them a promotional message they will remember now and in the months ahead. Here are two suggestions on what to do.... Employees, are either at home or working in the office... Provide them with tools they can use to do their jobs or make life easier. Improve their environment at home. You may have employees who are laid off and are not able to or allowed to be at work. Think about making home more of a fun space....pillows, games, school tools, exercise equipment or encouragement. Customers - Think about ways to connect with them and to make their lives easier. Could be an office or a home item or an item directed for the family life at home since everyone is home bound. If you noticed, I did not create a long list of promotional items, like mugs, or shirts or exercise equipment or office products. I didn't for two reasons: 1) Every promotion is different and together we have to decide what is your message and which items will convey that message.. And 2) and more important: My goal in communicating with these audiences is to do three things: 1) Engage the audience. 2) Uplift and motivate them. 3) Create Action. Until we talk, I don't know the direction you would like to go. I have a lot of ideas I would like to share with you. How do we communicate our message. This can be done by a complete promotion (direct mail, emails, radio, TV LinkedIn, Facebook advertising and a promotional item) that has a goal, a message, an outcome, a theme that are all tied together. So, when the audience receives the package, they understand your message be it you care, you appreciate them and you are thinking of them. Or it could be your own unique message you want them to know. I can assist you with all aspects of the promotion.
